Dr. Indrajit Charit has been serving as the Chair of the Department of Nuclear Engineering and Industrial Management at the University of Idaho (UofI), Idaho Falls, since January 2021. He is a Full Professor of Nuclear Engineering. He earned his Ph.D. degree in Metallurgical Engineering from Missouri University of Science & Technology (formerly, University of Missouri-Rolla) in 2004. He joined the UofI faculty in 2007 following a postdoctoral stint in the Nuclear Engineering Department of the North Carolina State University. Dr. Charit’s research and teaching interests span across various aspects of materials processing, microstructure, and materials characterization with a focus on nuclear materials, radiation effects, and high temperature mechanical behavior of materials. His research has been supported by entities including the US Department of Energy – Office of Nuclear Energy, Idaho National Laboratory, National Science Foundation, National Energy Technology Laboratory, and the State of Idaho. Over the years, he led or participated in more than 40 research grants/contracts worth more than 10 million dollars and supervised the graduation of about 35 master’s and doctoral students. He is the author/co-author of 115 peer-reviewed journal articles, 42 conference proceedings articles, 6 book chapters, 2 textbooks, and 1 edited book. Previously, he served as the Vice Chair and Chair of the Nuclear Materials Committee within The Minerals, Metals and Materials Society (TMS). He is a licensed professional engineer (P.E.).
