METL
Mechanisms Engineering Test Loop

The National Reactor Innovation Center’s (NRIC) Mechanisms Engineering Test Loop (METL) facility allows stakeholders to test advanced reactor components using purified R-grade sodium. METL is used to test small- to intermediate-scale components to support liquid metal fast reactor design development.
Located at Argonne National Laboratory, METL consists of test vessels connected in parallel to a main sodium loop. The different vessels share an expansion tank, purification system, and several electromagnetic pumps and flowmeters. This flexible consolidated design minimizes infrastructure requirements and allows researchers to perform multiple experiments simultaneously.
