The National Reactor Innovation Center (NRIC) built and initiated operations of the Helium Component Test Facility in 2022. The facility tests equipment and components for high-temperature gas-cooled reactors. It reduces costs by giving public and private stakeholders a test bed with capabilities that closely matches the temperature, pressure and gas volume of an operating reactor, in a non-irradiated environment. Users can validate component performance in flowing or stagnant conditions using helium or nitrogen at varying temperatures and pressures, including at vacuum.
