The Launch Pad INL covers about 2,000 acres, divided into several plots for private nuclear tech developers, including those working on advanced reactors, fuel fabrication, recycling, and other innovations.

Overall Benefits:

  • Land suitable for different nuclear applications and regulatory deployment structure.

  • Accelerated identification, allocation and assessment of sites.

  • Proximity to INL’s existing utilities and services.

  • Direct access to specialized nuclear expertise, as needed.

  • Assistance navigating the complexities of nuclear regulations for DOE authorization or Nuclear Regulatory Commission licensing.

  • A flexible contract framework with DOE and INL

Frequently Asked Questions

How will parcel allocaton for developers choosing the Launch Pad INL be determined?

Parcel allocations will be made and solidified upon receipt of accepted projects through the NRIC RFA submission review process. Of the lands identified for potential development, placement and allocations will be made to reduce potential impacts, risks, hazards, and other siting needs specific to the project and will account for continuity of mission and future growth of INL. Where and when multiple submissions may be accepted, site plans for potential projects may be requested to ensure appropriate parcel allocations.

Acreage of allotted parcels will vary based on developer’s scope of work and needs. Within reason and the constraints of land availability, Launch Pad parcels will be sized to adequately house developer facilities and required stand-offs.

Launch Pad INL is sited near the laboratory’s Central Facilities area and has a non-commercial transport route to INL’s Materials and Fuels Complex. Developers will be able to utilize this localized nuclear ecosystem as needed. Launch Pad has proximity to electrical interconnect, potable water, and fiber lines.

Developers are required to fund all work required to connect to electrical, water, and fiber infrastructure as allowed per applicable laws and regulation. Developers will be responsible for all local infrastructure development (buildings, parking lots, access roads, etc.) required for their facility to function.
